Kim Kardashian West opened up during the candid interview

During her Feb. 11 interview on Laura Wasser’s All’s Fair podcast, Kardashian West shared some of her devastating experiences with pregnancy complications and how it prompted a journey to using surrogates for her third and fourth children.

Kardashian West had a miscarriage scare during her first pregnancy with daughter North. “I thought I had a miscarriage because I was really heavily bleeding and in so much pain in Miami,” she shared. “I went in because you have to go in and do a [dilation and curettage] to clean out the miscarriage… My doctor said, ‘Come in the morning. We’ll do it Thanksgiving night so no one will see you.’ I went in and there was no heartbeat and he said, ‘You had a miscarriage.’”

On Thanksgiving, however, Kardashian West was told some surprising news from the doctor. “He said ‘There’s a heartbeat,’” the reality star explained. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is a sign, it’s Thanksgiving morning.’”

Complications with that pregnancy and her second pregnancy with son Saint prompted her and husband Kanye West to explore surrogacy, with their children Chicago West and Psalm West born via surrogates.

She shared how her mom and dad have impacted her life

As the interview was wrapping up, Wasser asked Kardashian West: “Which relationship in your life has had the most profound impact?”

“I would say my dad and my mom. Honestly, my husband, my kids, I don’t know… I have such a big family,” she began.

Landing on one person, however, she said her connection to her dad is profound, calling it a “deep connection and longing to the memories.” She added: “I feel like what he instilled in us for so long, I was 22 when he passed away so I feel like I got a good base, a good foundation on what he taught us. So I feel like that has lasted the longest.”

“But my mom, obviously, has taught us so much in our adult life about business and just how to treat people. They’re both really strong relationships,” Kardashian West noted.

She had some words of wisdom for her younger self

When asked: “What is the one piece of advice you’d share with either your 20-something-year-old self or someone following in your footsteps?,” Kardashian West again had some great insight.

“I wish I was more confident starting at a younger age. I really gained a lot of confidence when I met Kanye,” she shared. “He really pushed that with me and helped me gain confidence and I wish that I knew that sooner…”

That said, she explained, “But everything else… I love all of the craziness and mistakes, like I really do think that you really learn a lot — hopefully you don’t make the same mistakes over and over — which I hope I don’t. I love the journey and I wouldn’t really change a whole lot. I just would maybe hope to be a bit more confident at a younger age. Then I probably wouldn’t have made some of those mistakes.”
